Educational Forum on Law Enforcement Careers

As part of the Black History Month Celebration of 2010 at The College of New Jersey, The Black Student Union, in conjunction with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.‘s, Delta Upsilon-Chapter, hosted an Educational Forum on Law Enforcement careers. The two hour event was free to the public and part of the Scholarship and Educational initiative of the chapter.

The forum was held on Tuesday, February 16th in the Library Auditorium of The New Library on the campus of TCNJ. High school and college students that are interested in careers in Law Enforcement were encouraged to attend as probation officers, detectives, attorneys and New Jersey State Police as well as others were available to give their firsthand accounts of what is needed and expected of someone who aspires to attain a career in this professional field.

Some of the areas addressed were the importance of higher education regarding career advancement, maintaining a clean record, career stability and salary, the significance of non paid and paid internships, the value of networking and other areas that the panel felt needed to be shared.

There were a total of 5 panelist, Titessa D. Smith, Probation Officer Gloucester County,  Bro. Mark Muse, Captain, NJSP, Steven Roberts, Lt., Essex County Prosecutors Office, Marvin Adames, Attorney Essex County, and the Honorable Harold George, Presiding Municipal Court Judge.   Special thanks are in order for the strong support of the Brotherhood! Brothers in attendance were Bro. Keel, Bro. Nickson, Bro. Overton, Bro. Alford and Bro. Matlock. Bro. Rasheed Muse served as moderator, Bro. Mark Muse was a panelist and Bro. Jeff Sumners, who serves as the Scholarship and Education Chair, had opening remarks on behalf of the Fraternity and Chapter.

In summary, the estimated attendance of 40 had extremely positive things to say and look forward to more educational forums centered on education and business. The panelist left a positive impression on all of those in attendance.

5th Annual Seymour Hundley, Sr. Achievement Week and Recognition Brunch

    Over 80 Brothers and guests attended Delta Upsilon’s 5th Annual Seymour Hundley, Sr. Achievement Week and Recognition Brunch. During this event, Brother Khary Nickson was honored as our 2009 Omega Man of the Year and Home Front, Inc. was recognized as our Community Organization of the Year. Ewing High School senior Marcus McEntyre was also acknowledged as Delta Upsilon’s National Achievement Week Essay Contest winner.
